The back of the case features an ornament which is an ancient Slavic symbol for “wind”. The front has a striped flap and a buttoned closure.  For closure, I used this really cute Loops and Threads stackable button that I found at Michaels. It matched the colors of my yarn perfectly.

I used Bernat Handicrafter Cotton in Hot Blue for Main Color (MC), and Hot Green for Contrast Color (CC), and a 4 mm (US G6) crocheting hook. It’s best to use highly contrasting colors to make the ornament on the back really stand out.

The case fits my iPod Classic perfectly. iPod Classic measures 6.2 cm (2 3/8 in) in width and 10.3 cm (4 in) in height. The pattern can be scaled up or down to fit a bigger / smaller device.

The case is seamless and worked in the round.

To begin, ch 15.

Rnd 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 13 ch. 2 sc in last ch. Turning and working along opposite side of starting ch, sc in every ch and 2 sc in last ch. Join with sl st to beginning sc – 30 stitches.

Rnd 2: Following the pattern below, sc in 1st st, sc in all sts around, join with sl st – 30 stitches.

Follow the pattern below for the next 17 rounds, ending with stitch in column 2 or column 14 in the diagram below. Change to CC in the last st; turn.

{Rounds end; the striped flap is worked flat.}

1st row: working in CC, sc in 13 sts over the ornament (following the diagram below). Change to MC in the last st – 13 sts. Turn.

2nd row: sc in each st – 13 sts. Change to CC. Turn.

3rd row: sc2tog, sc 9, sc2tog. Change to MC in the last st – 11 sts. Turn.

4th row: sc2tog, sc 7, sc2tog. Change to CC in the last st – 9 sts. Turn.

5th row: sc2tog, sc 5, sc2tog. Change to MC in the last st – 7 sts. Turn.

6th row: sc2tog, sc 3, sc2tog. Change to CC in the last st – 5 sts. Turn.

7th row: sc2tog, sc 1, sc2tog. Change to MC in the last st – 3 sts. Turn.

To make a foundation for the button: ch 2. Close this with a sl st. 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook; sl st.

Sew the foundation where you want to place the button. Sew the button onto the foundation.

Starting at the corner between the flap and the pouch opening, sl st with contrast color in every sc until you come to the tip of the flap. Then, make ch long enough to make a loop around the button. Continue with sl st along the other edge of the flap and all around the pouch opening.

  1. The pattern described is for the flap – the stitches decrease to form it. This is not the pattern for the Slavic symbol. Where is this or do I have to work it out from the graph? I love the pattern but am confused by the instructions. Thanks for any help you can pass on to me by email.

  2. The diagram shows how to crochet the pattern.
